Staying Healthy at 50
By Liam Casey
Turning 50 is a milestone for many people. Some feel that they are getting old, while others feel that they are in the prime of their life. However one feels about turning 50, it is still important that one keeps him or herself healthy. The chance of certain disease occurring increases as a person ages, but taking care of oneself can help prevent them. There are three important things that a person can do to keep him or herself healthy after 50 and they are: getting regular checkups,
eating healthy,
and keeping active.
One of the most important things that a person can do to keep him or herself healthy is to get regular check-ups. A person who is 50 needs to make sure that he or she does this because there are many conditions that can arise and show no signs or symptoms. If a condition is detected early enough, it can be treated before it does any serious damage to a person's health. Staying on top of one's health by going to the doctor can also help prevent many medical conditions from occurring. One does not have to run to the doctor every time he or she has a minor illness, but he or she should get a check-up at least once a year.
It is also important that a person over 50 eat a healthy diet. This is important at any age, but as a person gets older; it becomes even more important. A person should be eating a diet that has plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. That will allow him or her to get all of the nutrients that he or she needs. It is also important that foods that are high in sugar, fat, and/or cholesterol be eaten sparingly, if at all. Eating a healthy diet will also help prevent weight gain and eliminate the need for

Although most people over 50 are not up to running a marathon, they still should be keeping active. A person should make sure that he or she is getting some form of
physical activity
most days of the week for at least 30 minutes. Being sedentary is a major problem that plagues people of all ages and leads to many health problems, such as obesity and heart disease. Keeping active will help a person maintain a healthy body weight and there will be no need going under the knife as

can be quite hefty. Additionally, it will help prevent many health problems.
Turning 50 means that a person is half a century old, but he or she does not have to look or feel that way. Getting regular check-ups, eating right, and staying active will keep a person looking and feeling good at any age.
