Lifestyle Changes After a Hysterectomy
By Dr. Nelly Stoyanova
Lifestyle changes after a hysterectomy could be challenging. If you have had a hysterectomy and you are experiencing hysterectomy side effects and menopausal symptoms, you should be doing the following lifestyle changes:
Exercise has to become a part of your daily routine. Physical activity reduces your risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes and helps you maintain a healthier weight.
A regular daily regimen of at least 20 minutes of walking, using your treadmill or any other fitness equipment will improve your sleep quality, and also your sex life.
1. Become (more) physically active

2. Control your daily stress
Reduce your stress level. Stress stimulates your body to produce more cortisol (the hormone of stress), and can make you gain weight, especially around the waist.
3. Nutrition
Nutrition is also a key factor after hysterectomy. Increase consumption of fruits, and vegetables. Green leafy vegetables, like kayle, are a good choice. Use foods that naturally stimulate your sex drive.
Fresh vegetables or vegetable juices, consumed daily, offer one of the best protections against heart disease, and high cholesterol. I personally recommend
the Mediterranean diet
and plenty of
raw fruits and vegetables,
(but not everyone enjoys them raw). If this is the case, you can take some natural, fruit and vegetable based suplements.
To improve bowel function use Psyllium husks – they also help with
body detoxification.
Be aware that Psyllium husks require drinking plenty of water. You should be drinking 8 or 10 glasses of water each day even if you are not taking Psyllium.
