Myths About Personal Growth
By Amy Sherman
Since there is so much said about the importance of self-growth and personal development, maybe it's time to dispel some myths about it.
Myth #1: Personal development is just about positive thinking
Certainly, positive thinking is an important component to any long-term growth. However, it is not the most essential aspect. Instead, awareness of how you feel is more significant in controlling how your life will unfold. When you understand
how negative thoughts zap your energy and impact your life, you will be more willing to keep your mindset positive and optimistic.
Myth #2: Personal development involves becoming self-motivated
This is true. In order to grow, you need to motivate yourself to action and to step outside your comfort zone. This takes an internal push and desire from within to consistently behave or think a new way.
Myth #3: Personal development is not for everybody
There is always room for improvement and unless you try something new, you will never know if it will work for you. Therefore, I believe we can all benefit from new
philosophies that improve the quality of our lives.
Myth #4: Personal development programs cannot change lifelong habits
It doesn't matter how much you change - just that the change is something you are willing to continue over time. Understand that old conditioning can be transformed and modified just because you start looking at things differently.
Is your life worth the effort? Will personal development work for you? Be open to new ideas. Be receptive to other philosophies. Be willing to accept all opportunities. Once you do, the personal development programs you choose will become the essence of endless possibilities.
