Sleep is required for the body to work properly, mature, and heal itself after an injury. Most research findings advise that grownups require from six to eight hours of sleep nightly. Many people, however, cannot do this. Almost 20 million individuals who live in the United States alone experience significant difficulty sleeping nightly.

Numerous elements that result in sleep disorders are responsible for this amazing statistic. For instance, a large number of individuals snore. Loud snoring may even cause sleepers to wake, in a start, at the noise. Additionally, persons who are married to someone that snores loudly often have trouble sleeping while such a racket is happening in the same room!

Snoring may also be symptomatic of a related sleeping difficulty called sleep apnea. Sleep apnea happens when a person quits breathing in the middle of sleep. This condition can be caused by obstructions in the nose and sinus passages, or as a result of excessive weight. This problem can be lethal, and those who are diagnosed with sleep apnea typically wear a mask that delivers pressurized air to their lungs during sleep.

Sleep apnea may cause narcolepsy, another common sleeping disorder. On occasion, however, individuals who do not suffer from sleep apnea are diagnosed with narcolepsy. People who are diagnosed with this problem frequently go to sleep unexpectedly and without warning in any place or at any time. If a person is being treated for narcolepsy, the doctor often orders that person to refrain from driving until the disorder is being treated effectively; going to sleep while driving can be very dangerous!

Another potentially dangerous sleeping disturbance is referred to as sleepwalking, and is also described referred to in scientific research as somnambulism. Individuals who sleepwalk engage in the identical activities - eating, drinking, climbing stairs, et cetera - that they perform while they are awake. Up to one-fifth of the people in the world may sleepwalk.

In some instances, people have even been reported to have driven or killed someone during a sleepwalking episode! Most of the time, however, the one who is sleepwalking is in much more peril than the people witnessing the event. The most effective approach is to help the person get back to bed.

A condition described as shift work sleep disorder is often seen in individuals whose job requires them to work alternating shift schedules, afternoon, or night shifts. This difficulty can result in either of two categories of sleep difficulties: excessive tiredness, or insomnia. Furthermore, persons who experience this disorder have a higher likelihood of cancer than those who do not experience it.

Persons who develop insomnia frequently have trouble going to sleep at bedtime. In the event that they are able to sleep, they typically do not sleep soundly and awaken easily. They might only sleep for a few hours before awakening.

The consequences of this disorder are daytime sleepiness and decreased physical coordination. Although individuals who experience insomnia may suffer from sleepiness, however, chronic insomnia sufferers may find that they are constantly over-alert, and have much trouble with becoming calm and relaxed. Additional possible effects of this health problem are physical and emotional fatigue.

Many people offer suggestions about how to cure insomnia. Some of these include some interesting home remedies for insomnia. One of these is a concoction of honey, tea, and milk, although there is no solid evidence showing that this mixture, or insomnia hypnotherapy.
