The Key to Finding Yourself
There's a wonderful quote by poet/author, Natasha Josefowitz, that states, "When I was young I used to wonder what I would be when I grew up. And now that I am all grown up I do not wonder what I will be for I have found out who I am."
Do you know who you are? Have you lost your true self while focusing on your spouse, the kids, your elderly parents and work? Did you exclude the most important person in the world?
You have a lot of demands placed on you and gradually over time you may have forgotten what you want and what your long desired dreams are. You have been living to fulfill the wants and wishes of everybody else.
But now is your time. What would you like to do?
To help you decide WHAT you want, ask yourself the following questions:
1. If you had all the money in the world, what would you be doing?
2. What would you regret not having done, if you were reflecting over your life on your death bed? Perhaps going back to school? Learning to play the guitar?
3. What are the three words you would want people to remember about you? Motivational, Resilient, Honest? Adventurous, Independent, Intuitive?
4. What are the key things you notice about yourself? Look at patterns and trends in your behavior.
Avoid telling yourself:
1. I'm too tired
2. I'm going to look foolish
3. It's too late in life
4. I might fail
5. I don't know what I'm doing
Everything starts with a thought. Go easy on yourself. You are on a journey of exploration. It's like trial and error. You will hit bumps and hurdles in the road, but that's all part of
the process. Don't let anyone tell you who you're not. Just be true to yourself and you will find what really makes you happy. Then go for it.
Take yourself someplace where you can be alone in your thoughts and really think about this, with no distractions or noise. In solitude, you gain the insights and enlightenment that would
be helpful in designing the new you. The key to finding yourself is to create the person you've always wanted to be. After that, everything else will fall into place.
