About Us
About us is actually about my daughter and I. She enthusiastically agreed to help edit the site. I was happy to have her involved in the process because sometimes my English seems to need a little touching up.
I grew up in Bulgaria, (maybe I need to create a page about Bulgaria for those who know little or nothing about this country which I personally believe is the most beautiful country in Eastern Europe).
After graduating from medical school, I went through a pediatric residency. In the late 80's I found myself in Paris as a fellow in respiratory diseases and graduated from the University of Paris with a diploma in Allergy and Clinical Immunology. I hold a master degree in human behavior and social sciences from the University of Georgia and almost satisfied the PhD program requirements.
My affiliation with international non-profit organizations and volunteer work took me around the world from South Africa to Haiti and the Middle East.
After practicing traditional medicine for over 20 years, my interest in health behavior, cultural diversity and health disparity led me to a research position in social epidemiology that involves obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.
In the course of my daily encounter with people- mostly boomers like me (born between 1946-64) I realized how important it was to talk with them about their life style. People are becoming increasingly immune to phrases such as :”You need to diet and exercise” or ”With good diet and exercise plan, you would be fine”. The problem is that people don’t know what that means and neither do I.
It is easy to throw out a phrase that wont' produce any results but that’s not what I am about. I wanted to make a difference. I want to convey a message. I want to make people understand why they do what they do. Why for example don’t they lose weight even if they run 3 miles every day and stay on a low-fat diet (or low-carb diet)?
This is how I came up with the idea to start my own web site about baby boomers' health, and baby boomers' stress related issues.
