Eat and lose weight?

There is nothing written in stone that says you can eat and lose weight at the same time but some animal studies show interesting results when it comes to brown seaweed (used in many Asian dishes like miso soup).

Brown seaweed contains fucoxanthin, a compound that stimulates the liver production of DHA (which reduces the "bad" LDL cholesterol), and may reduce the accumulation of fat (abdominal fat in particular).

Just to remind you that abdominal fat (also called big waistline or visceral fat) is the Big Bad Fat, the one that is related to heart disease, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. This is the fat you don’t want to have around the waist.

So the point is not only to eat and lose weight but to eat and lose weight around the waist.

The question is:

Is there any natural food or drink (not processed ones, not artificially prepared and potentially dangerous diet foods and drinks) that can help you lose the over all weight but most importantly the fat around the waist?

Eat and lose weight with cayenne pepper

Cayenne

Studies have shown that Cayenne pepper improves digestion, increases metabolism and suppresses appetite. It contains capsaicin, a chemical known to improve circulation (hence considered to enhance sex drive) and for its pain-relieving properties. Cayenne pepper can be added in food or taken in pill form which is great for people who do not tolerate spicy foods.

Tip: just use a pinch to achieve its metabolism-boosting benefit.

Avocado to cut fat

Food like avocado, fish, poultry, wheat, milk, and fermented soybeans are rich in L-carnitine, produced in the liver, that helps regulate fat metabolism and promotes fat loss. L-carnitine also helps reduce triglycerides and increase good cholesterol, thereby protecting the heart.

Ginger

Ginger is used in a lot of Asian recipes, baking recipes, as well as smoothies and fruit recipes. Available as root or in powder form. Just break off a 1 to 2-inch piece from the root, peel it and either grate it or slice it.

Cinnamon

There are data that show the effect of cinnamon on obesity and diabetes type II due to its high content of antioxidant. A controlled trial comparing a placebo against cinnamon was reported in Diabetes Care 2003;26:3215-8.

In this trial doses of cassia cinnamon ranging from 1-6 grams a day provided in divided daily doses all produced some significant reductions in blood sugar levels, total cholesterol levels, triglyceride levels and finally even lower levels of LDL lipoproteins.

What about the so called “trimming teas”?

In this case instead of eat and lose weight you are supposed to drink and lose weight. We are bombarded with ads about green tea, Okinawan tea, wu long tea, oolong tea or woo long tea that are supposed to trim the body but no official study/evaluation has been made by the FDA, and any claims about the exact ability of green tea to be a weight-loss aid have not been evaluated by the FDA.

Drinking tea that has no calories, instead of soda that has 100 + calories helps you reduce your weight and the caffeine, and other tea ingredients (like HRDS) slightly boost the metabolism. The overall effect is beneficial.

But even if you eat food that makes you lose weight would that be enough for a good health?

Nah! Food is only part of the whole process to keep your heart healthy.
