All it Takes is Some Inspiration

By Amy Sherman, LMHC

Often, all it takes is some inspiration to change your mood when life feels overwhelming and exasperating. I like to read things that inspire me because it gives me encouragement and lets me know that I shouldn't give up. Inspirations come in many forms -as quotes, as affirmations, as poetry, or simple phrases I thought I'll share with you some inspiring words for whatever adversity you may be experiencing to motivate you to overcome.

"Here is the secret of inspiration: Tell yourself that thousands and tens of thousands of people, not very intelligent and certainly no more intelligent than the rest of us, have mastered problems as difficult as those that now baffle you." - William Feather

"Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow." - Mary Ann Radmacher

"Anyone can give up; it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength" - Unknown

"When life knocks you down, try to land on your back. Because if you can look up, you can get up." - Les Brown

"When you recover or discover something that nourishes your soul and brings joy, care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life." - Jean Shinoda Bolen

Sometimes it helps to remember all the things you loved doing in the past and how it made you feel. When you recall the joy you experience, why would you want to stop that feeling? Therefore, I recommend you get excited all over again, doing what you love and maybe it will be easier to get over what is bothering you now.

So, if you're feeling stessed, frustrated, drained, overworked, angry, irritable, annoyed, unappreciated, empty or alone, find something inspiring outside of yourself to fill you up and redirect you to a better mind-set. Staying positive is always better than being negative. Negative thoughts and emotions wreak havoc on your life. There is nothing redeeming about being negative.

Therefore, when things get you down, look for the upside and take control of your thinking. Deliberately, find materials to inspire you. There's a huge payoff with this. You will feel better and when you feel better, the outcome is usually better than you dreamed.
