Quick Body Detox With Foods

By Dr. Nelly Stoyanova

Here is how I created my Quick Body Detox With Foods Guide. I was browsing through information on various body detox programs and I could not find a comprehensive list of foods that when eaten fresh, raw or lightly steamed are known to actually detoxiify the body so I decide to create my own. Here is a list of my favorite foods that I actually use on a regular basis:

1. Fiber:

This is probably one of the most important foods that detox the body. It expands in the digestive tract absorbing toxins along the way. My favorite form of fiber (and the most affordable one) is psyllium. Psyllium absorbs not only toxins but also cholesterol. Powdered psyllium can be mixed into juice (be careful though, if you put too much of the powder, the juice quickly become thick to the point that you need to eat it with a spoon). You can also sprinkle it on food. I personally prefer the psyllium husks, which can be found in health food stores.

2. Vegetables

Green, leafy: Chlorophyll helps flush out environmental toxins such as heavy metals, pollutants and pesticides. The best way to eat them is raw in a salad.

Watercress: It has a diuretic (define) effect that detoxifies your system. It can be added to salads or soups.

Cabbage: It increases the activity of both types of the detoxifying enzymes in the liver.

Broccoli Sprouts: Broccoli sprouts have up to 50 times more cancer-fighting power than the full-grown stalks.

Garlic: It activates the liver enzymes that help filter out junk. You can add it to salads, sauces, juices. I prefer the actual garlic clove but if you hate the smell you can take capsules.

3. Fruits

Rich in vitamin C, fiber, fluids and antioxidants, to name a few benefits.

Lemons: Lemon juice is perfect for cleansing your system. It's also full of vitamin C and grabs onto toxins that are then flushed out. A combination of emon juice with honey or maple syrup, and sprinkled cayenne pepper is the best detoxifying juice.

4. Sesame seeds

This is by far my favorite one. I personally love to mix Tahini paste (concentrated form of pureed sesame seeds) from any grocery store with honey. Take 1 tea spoon of Tahini and 2 tea spoons of honey of your choice and mix them well. It taste great and works even better. It is also an ancient remedy used to treat stomach ulcers and gastritis. It is known to protect liver cells from the damaging effects of alcohol and other chemicals. You can find sesame seeds in health food stores and sprinkle them on salads or baked goods.

5. Fluids:

Juices: Fresh fruit or vegetable juices keep you hydrated and the fluids moving through your system.

Green Tea: Rich in antioxidants and contains catechins, which increase liver activity. Try to find a naturally decaf version.

Water: THE ultimate body cleanser.

Do not go for 'vitamin waters' because they contain high-fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners. All you need is plain, purified or filtered spring or tap water kept in glass container. Stay clear of low grade plastic bottles that release dangerous chemicals in the water.
